off i go to New England.

to watch the Pats take the SuperBowl...
to pack for the DR trip
to eat well in Mass, Conn, and Vermont
to visit the Ben and Jerry's ice cream factory, of course.

let's pray the inclement weather doesn't imperil our lives during all this traveling.

eating report to follow for the aficianado's...

the cooking/eating report for this weekend...

i made 'jook' with the chicken stock i made.
thought i'd just eat it, but it smelled very chicken-y...and i chickened out.

apple pie. who knew pie contained so much butter. but i don't think i can go back to store-bought crusts anymore. SO yum.
you make this BIG pile of apples for filling and then it sinks to a "normal" size. and we had it with vanilla bean ice cream. o man...the worlds that are now opened to my eyes. the multiple variations of apple pie. the cold weather is very conducive to pie-making.

pizza. thin crust is very good. and the fake bacon by morningstar farm, very enjoyable with pineapple. but we should upgrade the cheese. store-brand mozzerella is not cutting par.

and home-baked fries. marinated with curry. ah...so "yeet hay" but so good.

finally applesauce. the crockpot is GREAT. i love it. when i think of things ahead of time.

and tonight's dinner...soup?

Friday, January 23

the Pat's are going to the SuperBowl...
and we get to be in New England to watch the game...
it's kinda exciting...

Thursday, January 22

perhaps it's strange for a vegetarian, but i made chicken stock.
and i just stumbled across this article from the Washington Post
and now i'm addicted...

except that i can't taste my concoction...

and i don't know when we'll have chicken carcasses lying around again.

the NY Times is still so very interesting, by far, my favorite paper...

look at what they decide to write on

for a sample, go to Google
and search for "miserable failure"

who knew that MLK Jr. Day was a GREAT day for shopping.

i am refuting my bachelor status.

i not only bought a dress.

i bought a dress on sale.

on a major sale.

in fact, it's such a lovely dress, i'm actually looking forward to wearing it.

I'M a GIRL!

Friday, January 16

it must be all the dining past nine o'clock.
that's what keeping me up.

i missed the 8:30 shuttle this morning. it must be the MEAN driver. i was totally booking it. well, booking it as much as i could on ice.
this is NOT how i want to start my day.

Thursday, January 15

i thought i was over being jet-lagged.
i thought i was an "experienced" traveler.

last night i was up for three hours in the middle of the night.
not fair.
i'm ready to chalk it down to insomnia.
next time i'm going to read or watch a movie.
granted the conversation back home was great.
but when the fam says, it's late, we're going to bed...
i know i can't just be jet-lagged.

i already miss the home cooking.
o grandpa...
and your deep fried salt and pepper shrimp...

funny thing though, i saw Dunkin Donuts and thought i actually missed the sight of them.
it's weird to miss things on the East Coast.

You know the world is going crazy when the best rapper is a white guy, the best golfer is a black guy, the tallest guy in the NBA is Chinese, the Swiss hold the America's Cup, France is accusing the U.S. of arrogance, Germany doesn't want to go to war, and the three most powerful men in America are named "Bush", "Dick", and "Colon."
