friday: adventures in New York.
this lady totally says "Hi, how are you?" in passing and never noticed that we've never met each other in our whole lives.
so i decide to keep up the pretense and say, "Good!"
was i being deceptive?
and then...
i ran into PHYLLIS among the bajillion of people in Chinatown. unbelievable. apparently, she's going to columbia for grad school. in electrical engineering. i love that she's such a nerd.
finally, we got chocolate covered canolis in Little Italy. Not as good as the Termini Bros. in S. Philly. it's the filling. the ricotta just wasn't creamy. sigh.

saturday: we visited our friend who works at a cafe...
she hooked us UP. a beautifully gorgeous salad, a lovely sandwich, a chai "lullaby", a merlot, a hot apple cider, AND a mississippi mud pie.
10 bucks. we LOVE kate. of course we tipped her like there was no tomorrow.

sunday night football, of course. the pats won.

Thursday, November 13

yesterday, sheena and i were lamenting our lack of lunch and inability to purchase a fine meal.
so we talked to the Higher Authority...
and whaddya know, a faculty meeting left us eggs, hash browns, bagels (and sausage and bacon for sheena).

Thanks!

today...the only thing in the kitchen was chocolate covered pretzels. sigh.

Tuesday, November 11

NYU does KOSHER.
avocadoes are KOSHER.
i LIKE kosher.

see here for weather commentary...

yesterday, there were bagels and danishes lying around in the school kitchen.
sundried tomato...SPICY...yum.
and then at lunch, cheese pizza...left over from a mtg.
sometimes, i think there are advantages to private schools.

Friday, November 7

this week...the free food...
o man, the cup runneth over.

wed: tuna salad sandwich, orzo, salad, brownies, cookies.
thurs: cheese sandwich, pasta salad, pretzels, brownies, cookies, fine cheese, fresh vegetables.
today was leftovers.
but tomorrow...conference in NY...let's see if the lunch is any good.
i'm dunno if NYU knows how to eat.

i wonder how the food is in seattle.

The problem with political jokes is that they get elected.

Henry Cate VII

Philly's choices for mayor is sad. One under investigation by the FBI and the other is being sued for embezzlement.

Monday, November 3

the pool is broken.
that explains why on Friday, i practically froze.
why is it that things defrost faster in cold water?
that's ok, today, i sat in the sauna instead.
i don't think it really replaces the exercise i'm supposed to be gettin...
but oh well, beggars can't be choosers.

on the food note...
after several celebratory gatherings, our kitchen is stocked w/...

1. brownies w/ chocolate chunks.
2. cheesecake
3. pumpkin pie (from fresh pumpkin, no less)
4. sherry cake.
5. pumpkin, walnut cake (i forgot when it really is, except that it's GOOD.)
6. apple cake
7. ice cream

that's a complete list. i feel like my cup overfloweth.
and somehow we're stuck w/ a bottle of rum. which is really low on my 'yay' list for the kitchen, b/c i don't even enjoy foods cooked in rum. b/c i was thinking we might try beer battered sumthing...but i don't think light beer will really be as enjoyable. and the "good" beer really ought to be drunken, not cooked into oblivion. though, if one really wants to be philosophical, does not all consumption end in oblivion?
